BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK
Located in southwestern South Dakota, Badlands National Park consists
of 244,000 acres of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles and spires blended
with the largest, protected mixed grass prairie in the United States.
Badlands National Park contains the world's richest
Oligocene epoch fossil beds, dating 23 to 35 million years old. Scientists
can
study the evolution of mammal species such as the horse, sheep, rhinoceros

LACREEK NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
Lacreek National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1935 as a refuge
and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife. The refuge
serves as an important staging area for migrating Canada geese, other
waterfowl, sandhill cranes, shorebirds, and neotropical
migrants. Providing critical wintering habitat for the high plains trumpeter
swan population is a primary goal. The refuge provides a variety of habitats

BOWRING RANCH
The park preserves a turn-of-the-century working cattle ranch. The ranch
house, outbuildings and visitor center contain displays devoted to the
extraordinary careers of Arthur and Eve Bowring and ranching in the sandhills.
Arthur was a state legislator, and Eve was the first Nebraska woman to
